If you were to look at the Wigan RLFC heritage site you will see at number 85 one Jack Anderton. He was my grandfather. I post this because, yesterday, my great grandson Nathaniel Twiss was offered and accepted a scholarship at Wigan Warriors. Thus over 120 years after grandad wore the famous Cherry & White one of his offspring will finally follow in his footsteps. As a lifelong supporter of the club I can't tell you how proud I feel at the news. I must add that my dad William Anderton played for the Wigan A team with whom he won a medal but unable to break into the first team he went to Salford (Heritage No.274. Also my grandson Philip Anderton played 1 game of Super League but it was for Saints so I don't like to talk about it. I hope, one day, that Nathaniel makes the grade and has a great career at Wigan but if I live long enough to see it will probably mean I'll be a centurian.
Lovely story. My granddad used to try to tell me stories about watching Wigan in the early years of the last century. He saw Lance Todd play for us! Unfortunately I was too young to pay much attention. Long gone now...
